You are right.

There are very, very tech items where the old one is prefered.

I don't think I can even get to ten examples (excluding automobiles)

1. Precedent FM tuner from 1940s.
Designed by a friend of Col. Armstrong, the inventor of FM.
Still used by audiophiles and some test labs.

2. R-390 communications radio reciever Collins designed tube set.
Excellent performance and stability, tube design tends to make it immune to EMP. Cost about 2,000-5,000 new (contracts ran for years) Production stopped around 1969.
US Government had Motorola start new production run around 1980s, bought several thousand at about $ 40,000 each.
