TW might be right, but his posts are that typically bile filled anti-Intel rhetoric with absolutely no factual support provided. Responding to him somehow seems unnecessary to anyone basically familiar with the concept of pissing into the wind.

They may need to learn how, since AMD starts shipping from a second FAB early next year and will be shipping from 3 FABs later in the year. I get the sense that the Intel guys are all thinking, "It's just like 1999, AMD will take 2 more years to ramp their FAB and by then it won't matter." AMD learned a major lesson after they tried to start a new FAB on a brand new, bleeding edge process (copper - 2 years ahead of Intel) and got burned. AMD is being super-cautious with FAB 36. AMD is using the same process as in FAB 30. Fortunately for AMD, that's that superior dual layer strain silicon on insulator process that has been steadily taking market share from Intel - it's all AMD needs until 2007 (though they'll have a new process next year). FAB 36 will almost certainly ramp very quickly. FAB 7 will follow later in the year, and Intel will find itself facing the toughest competition it's seen in decades. Intel may have to learn how to make money from NAND.... :-)
