Communism is the opposite of liberalism except in their ideal forms. Ideally communism is a peaceful utopia where all people (workers) share equally and call each other comrade.

In reality, communism usually becomes a military dictatorship police states where nobody has any rights except a few selfish party bosses at the top. Liberal societies are the opposite of one-party police states.

In liberal societies, people have the maximum amount of rights. Democracy is sancrosanct, which is the opposite of the reality of communism.

Conservatism is ideally the opposite of communism, but in reality becomes closer to it than liberalism. The corporate bosses and upperclasss get most of the pie and the middleclass and poor get whatever they can work or scrounge for. Like the robber baron era in US history when the rich were not taxes and ruled via the monopoly.

Extreme conservatism becomes something of a police state (remember McCarthy, Jim Crow segregation and J. Edgar Hoover?), the same as the reality of a communist state. Far right becomes far left. Human rights go out the window.

So the best plan is moderation. A fiscally conservative centrist-progressive state which can defend itself strongly but does not limit freedom and democracy and which keeps the gulf between rich and poor from being too wide, which means taxing the rich. Its laws must also be properly enforced for both rich and poor. No one can be above the law. AGreed?
