1:28PM U.S. homebuilders' index plunges to 30-month low in Nov. by Rex Nutting
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Sentiment among U.S. homebuilders plunged in November to the lowest level in 30 months, the National Association of Home Builders said Wednesday. The housing market index declined by 8 points from 68 to 60 in November, indicating a healthy but weaker market. It was the biggest drop since October 2001. A reading over 50 indicates good conditions. All three components of the index fell in November: current sales of single family homes fell from 74 to 66, expected sales fell from 73 to 64 and buyers' traffic fell from 51 to 46. "It's important to keep today's report in perspective," said David Wilson, president of the group. Builders will remain busy in coming months, but they recognize "some slowing of demand is inevitable," he said
