Don, They were even more than "good times". I was a city boy from Houston, and working on a farm was a new learning experience, and added more to my life than I can begin to tell.

I learned to plow, seed, and harvest with a combine, along with the animal experiences. Being a city boy, and participating in pulling a calf out of a cow that was having delivery problems, will get one's attention, and if you think a Brahma bull is a threat, try out an angry Jersey bull. We had one charge through the barn door when it was closed, and took it off the hinges. I think one of the cows was in season.

The experiences in those years gave me respect for animals, both domesticated, and in the wild. They are a significant part of our planet, and add to our life experiences. I have found that, if one goes into a forest, sits very still, and waits for a little while, he can see all kinds of animals that normally would not come near a human for fear of death. For me, associating with a wild, and free, animal, gives me a warm feeling all over.
