"it would have been better to overkill with troops then to not have enough to shut down the boarders.. but I suppose that's just about impossible."

We have made many tactical and strategic mistakes in the liberation of Iraq. It is more difficult for Americans to tell a foreigner at the border of Iraq than at our own borders. A Mexican accent is different than a Texan one. How is a kid from Brooklyn going to tell an Iraq Shiite from an Iranian?

Iran has been believed to be the number one counterfeiter of dollars for many years. They have advanced forging capabilities that would include passports and other IDs. How could we have secured the border?

We are stuck with a theatre and a half troop level as a result of military budget cutting since the apparent end of the Cold War. We don't have the troops to commit. The media's portrayal of carnage instead of good news has inflicted the intended damage on recruiting. Where are the troops going to come from. We do not have the political will to reinstitute the draft.

The US military has been improvising for as long as it has been in existence. This accounts for much of our success. Give those bright young people 90% of the provisions they need and they will find a way to do without the rest. Give the a snafu plan, and they will make it work.
