Sure, winners on one side and war criminals on the other side.

But to hang Jodl and Keitel was nothing but an act of revenge on insistence of Stalin.

None of the them having any illusions though, they thought that as soldiers they had at least deserved to be shot rather that hung like dogs and filed for a change of way of execution, which was denied.

But again, Ole Joe had already settled that possibility as well with his allies to his best satisfaction.

Sure but again, while they were winning the war - and don't forget very few in the West gave Russia 3 months to surrender at the time - the only war criminals the Germans were thinking of were the Churchills and the Harrises.

Those were the guys ready to get it as soon as the war was won by the Germans.
The Germans most likely even had plans to use the allies's documents from WW I and by replacing the names there by corresponding WW II names from the other side, they would get even.
Similar to the railway waggon set up, you remember.
