This debate is tiresome and is really dragging this country down.

I would say the Supreme Court's decision to unilaterally (!!) legalize abortions has killed the debate that would have gone on over the past 30 years had they stayed out of the issue. Rather than having ongoing debates regarding the legality of abortion in every state legislature, it is allowed by the fiat of 9 people's decision.
