Saddam's regime has been replaced by what exactly? Iraq's future is not at all clear. For all we know it could fall into Islamic extremists hands soon, which could turn out to be worse than Saddam. At least Saddam was a secular leader who distrusted Jihadists.

What exactly will come out of the ashes of Saddam's regime is nowhere near clear, but at least there is opportunity to build a civil, normal, open society where before there was no opportunity. I'd say from here its basically up to the Iraqis to determine what will come out of Saddam's regime's ashes. If they are foolish enough to choose Islamic extremism, they will likely get seriously punished by outside forces over the decades to come. If instead they choose to form what the rest of us consider a normal, civil society (a la Turkey) then they will likely get rewarded with US economic support up the wazoo (as happened to Japan post WW2). We shall see. Their future is in their own hands, something they couldn't say while Saddam was in charge.
