Great skiing and boarding in the open Canadian resorts, thanks to the brilliant early season conditions ? the best in over 10 years. The skiing will also get a further boost this week with Sun Peaks and Tremblant opening this week. The fantastic snow falls over the Canadian resorts has been astounding recently. This is set to continue until around Wednesday, then the skies should clear up for some fine weather into the weekend.

AUSTRIA The predicted snow for the open Austrian resorts has moved back a day and is now expected to start on Wednesday. This may not sound so great, but now the predicted snowfall depth has increased significantly, with daily figures reaching 10cm. This is really good news as the snow is predicted right through into the weekend. Despite the fact that is has not snowed in around 2 weeks there is still some great skiing on the Hintertux glacier (100cm), the Kaprun glacier (70cm), Kaunertal glacier (40cm), Stubai glacier (70cm), Pitztal glacier (55cm) and the Solden glacier (110cm). These conditions such stay pretty stable as the temperatures are hovering around freezing.

FRANCE Tignes is the only reported resort currently open for skiing with 30cm of snow on the glacier. Les Deux Alpes is closed at present as it they are preparing the resort for the coming season.

SWITZERLAND It is getting increasingly colder in Switzerland and after a clear start to the week light snow is forecast for Wednesday in most resorts. In some cases this will continue on Thursday and Friday. Most resorts are still closed but glacier skiing is possible in Les Diablerets (0/4cm), Saas Fee (0/77cm) and Zermatt (0/60cm) on hard and fast pistes with temperatures just below freezing. The snow parks at all three resorts are open. The Les Diablerets glacier is now also accessible from Gstaad where four lifts are open.

ITALY Cervinia (0/70cm) now has skiing in its own valley. There are 3 lifts open on the Plateau Rosa which also provides a link to the Zermatt glacier. The conditions are reported as being fast due to the hard packed snow. The conditions at Passo Tonale (0/140cm) are holding well thanks to the low temperatures, it will be hard and fast skiing today under the sunny skies. Val Senales (0/80cm) is the same as both Cervinia and Passo Tonale with low temperatures and sunny skies. The 3 open resorts do not have snow forecast until the weekend. Hopefully the low temperatures will stay keeping the conditions at the current level.

ANDORRA The 5 reported resorts of Andorra are all yet to open for skiing and boarding.

NORWAY/SWEDEN Norway and Sweden resorts are yet to open for skiing and boarding. Trysil was due to open on the 29th October but due to insufficient snow this has not happened yet. A light dusting of snow is expected today and tomorrow but this will not alter the situation dramatically and allow the resort to open.

It is going to be a powder day today, and the snow will keep on falling at Breckenridge until Wednesday and then sunny weather will dominate for the rest of the week. Keystone (0/64cm) also opened over the weekend. The snow of the last 24 hours is set to continue today meaning that powder is definitely on the menu. The weather for the week ahead looks great with beautiful sunny skies on the way. Arapahoe Basin (0/70cm) has had 27cm in the last 24 hours. The powder conditions will keep on improving because more snow forecast over the next couple of days. Copper Mountain (0/84cm) is reporting lots of snow and they had 23cm over the weekend. Winter Park is hoping to open on Wednesday and with snow falling at present this is almost set to happen. Crested Butte has had 15cm in the last 48 hours, a great outlook for the opening on the 19th. There is snow forecast this week for Stowe, Sugarbush, The Canyons, Vail and Park City, great news with the first day of the lifts just around the corner.

CANADA The temperatures across the Canadian resorts are really low, reaching -10 to -15 Celsius, which is keeping the snow that has fallen in excellent condition. This has been added to with more snow over the weekend, really boosting the skiing at the open resorts of Lake Louise (0/107cm), Sunshine Village (10/82cm) and Whistler Blackcomb (70cm). Sun Peaks (8/75cm) is also scheduled to open this week on Wednesday 16th, with some fantastic early season conditions. Silver Star is closed for Alpine skiing, but is open for cross country skiing. Tremblant is also due to open on November 18th. A great weeks skiing and boarding ahead with more snow expected over the next couple of days.

From Wednesday a considerable amount of fresh snow is forecast over the Austrian resorts. France is a different story with a mixture of clouds and sunny spells over Tignes. It is a similar story for the majority of the French resorts, although a few do have a little snow predicted on the odd day. Italy has a sunny week ahead but temperatures will remain low protecting the current snow conditions. Temperatures in Switzerland are forecast to drop below freezing mid-week and light snow is due to fall on Wednesday.
