I do a lot with day trading. If I can flip a stock in a day for 1 point, I take it. A grand in one day is enough to go to nice dinner with my girl friend. I did that with new issue IRBT (I Robot) on the second day of trading.

Then ... then ... I did a day trade in my tax deferred account. Oh, the broker scream like there was no tomorrow. I said, what's the problem? I sold the stock in the morning and bought it back 4 hours later at $ 2/share less. Both transactions settled on the third when you get the money to pay for the buy back.

Oh no, said the broker. You have to have the money first before you can buy it again. We'll put you in restricted category, you have to go through a broker to trade. "Don't you trust yourself that the proceed will not be in for the buy back?" "It is SEC rule Sir, we have nothing to do with that!"

Therefore, to day trade you have to have margin.
