Last comment on retail sales. Although the trend of retail sales is something that will only be answered in the months ahead, could it be that the bankruptcy bill becoming law in mid-October helped spark a few extra sales in the month? For the unscrupulous of this world, we could easily see a few extra last minute shopping charges being added to cards five minutes prior to filing the necessary BK paperwork. A little game of beat the clock, so to speak. Noticeably, we also saw strength in clothing and general merchandise store sales in October. We certainly do not mean to dwell on the negative. We're just trying to look at all angles of the picture.


EDIT: How do the banks learn that some customer filed BK? I'd guess when they learn they immediately stop credit.
