Someone else asked about that the other day. I agree with what you say and think I said it a bit differently.

Who cares about what price Gold was 20 years ago? That answer is no different than saying QQQQ was a great investment because the NASDAQ was much lower 20 years ago than it is today.

I am sure Bob wished he recommended GOLD over QQQQ for half of cash reserves back in October 2000 when Gold had its own MOABO (near $250.)

Heck, I sure a heck wish I recommended Gold in 2000 over what I bought that is lower today, or even up less. Who wouldn't?
