The religious right is the #1 problem on divisive social issues. Their lack of realism foils any chance at a rational mature debate.

The Supreme Court ruling on abortion is what foils abortion legality debate. If abortion legality were up to the various state legislatures to decide (in the same way they decide sales tax and minimum standard tests in public schools), it would be discussed and debated in EVERY state election, and the state abortion laws would develop state by state to match the will of the people of that state.

That also has NOTHING to do with any religious right or left. The obstacle to debate is the Supreme Court ruling which outlaws debate on the issue.
