You know, there are many times when I am deeply disappointed with the GOP, frustrated with the leadership in the Senate, impatient with Bush, concerned that for the sake of this country and its future that fiscal conservatism still seems too weak to stem the tide of statism that is steadily, steadily inundating us.

But for all their faults and mis-steps and tin ears and dumbfounded response to the overwhelmingly corrosive political mendacity of their opponents, the men and women who serve on our side of the aisle are still accomplishing one paramount thing:

They are keeping the hands of poisonous bastards like these off of the real reins of power.

If Bush accomplishes nothing else in next three years, at least he will have accomplished that much, and that is no small thing for the fate of this nation.
