I work with those same materials, vinyl siding, composite decking, vinyl fencing, etc. What those pictures show to me is that the installers did not allow for enough expansion in the material. That decking material needs 1/2 inch space, 1/4 inch on each end to allow for temperature changes. Even though it should be screwed instead of nailed, nails would not cause those type of cracks. Bottom line is that that all of the plastic, composite, and vinyl materials are excellent and extremely durable products when INSTALLED correctly. Not just my opinion, 13 years working with these products.
