Jim, I disagree on Saddam still being in power. There is not one thing he could have done to stave off the chickenhawks. Bush had a grudge for years and was just waiting for power and an excuse. I can't blame him for the grudge. If he tried to assasinate my father, he would be on my list, too. When there was no legitimate excuse, he created or greatly enhanced stories about WMD and an Al Qaida connection and an implied connection to 9/11, etc. Saddam may have been able to save Iraq if Saddam had resigned and gone into exile where Bush could kill him quietly. But I don't see how that scenario would have allowed the oil crooks to rip off Iraq, which is part of any plan where Cheney is involved.
