" With the ability to lead comes respect."

Attitudes like that enable authoritarianism. Kim in N. Korea loves attitudes like yours. I don't respect a leader or a boss until he's earned it through wise decisions. Until then, the jury is OUT.

Bush has repeatedly failed the test.

Ted, I thought when a leader loses the respect of the people, he loses his ability to lead.

That's backwards to me. With the ability to lead comes respect. If I've been appointed to a position of authority, I'm not going to wait for the respect before I go out and show leadership.

I am afraid you have it backwards. In a democracy, when a leader loses respect, that leader loses the ability to lead. In Europe, that leads to the leader's resignation. Here, the president's agenda gets stalled and he becomes a true lameduck.
