Jefferson had plenty to say about the value of disset and debate. I don't know if that particular quote is accurate but there are pages upon pages of quotes where Jefferson rubs in the need for a strong press willing to dissent and tell the truth, strong truthful debate, respect for differing opinions, the value of compromise, and the rule of majority opinion.

Right now, truth, honest debate and public opinion are all running strongly against the Bushie spin machine. Bushies need to shut up, repent and start making serious compromises before this country explodes into rebellion and we start impeaching.

Jefferson made it clear that elected office is second to public opinion and truth. No elected official is above the law either. In fact, they are held to a higher standard. Remember Nixon-Agnew. And the fact Bush-Cheney are more guilty than Nixon-Agnew for crimes against democracy and important packs of outright lies and deceptions.

Here is the quote Bushies live by: "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's propaganda chief

The Chinu Jefferson quote is accurate. I checked it.
