That phony bill was a GOP stupid stunt trick misrepresenting what Murfa said. If the wording had been "immediate, but only soon as it's safe to do so" (as Murfa carefully stated), the bill should have passed overwhelmingly because that's what the American People want.

Kerry's plan states it more clearly, beginning now start bringing home 20,000 troops at a time and replacing them with Iraqis as we go. If we stay, the Iraqis will never dare to stepo up to the plate. Why should they when we're acting as their bodyguards?

Duncan Hunter was the bill's cynical sponsor, a corrupt politician like his buddy Duke Cuningham who just resigned after the FBI caught him with his hand in the kitty. Duncan Hunter is a disgrace. He made a mockery of ourt democracy today. That phony bill was a slap to the face of the American People and honest debate.

Also, the Duncan Hunter defenders lied tonight. They claimed that Saddam and Al Qaida were the same thing and that we were in Iraq to fight Al Qaida. Not true. Al Qaida has only been lured to Iraq because we've been relatively easy targets there, and we will continue to be. This is comparable to when Reagan got smart and withdrew from Beirut. You can't stay in a place that's insecure and where you have no clear mission or clear end game. That's a receipe for disaster, as Bush says.
