Vietnam was based on a lie. As was Iraq.
We occupied Vietnam thinking we were fighting communists.
In fact, we plunked ourselves right in the middle of a civil war. Just like in Iraq. Once Saddam was gone we found that out. Terrorists have also streamed in so we get a double-whammy in Iraq. In both cases the majority of the people in that country want us gone. Therefore it's almost impossible to win the hearts and the minds. In Iraq we don't have enough troops military to secure the whole country. Not even close. So it's a conflict which is basically endless. Same as Vietnam in that respect.

In both cases the troops fought bravely and did a great job.

In both cases the men at the top totally blew it and lied to the public and congress.
