These left positions cannot co-exist with religion peacefully

If you qualify "religion" with "certain" or "conservative Christian" I'll buy that. Many religions, even Christian sects, are indifferent to sodomy, for example.

They have had some very significant successes..

Indeed.

Other than our own liberal far left, the only other governments in the world that advocate no religion are communist.

I don't think our "liberal far left" advocates no religion. There are some who are hostile to religion, even the private practice of it, but not most, I don't think. Their political issue is the separation of church and state, not the existence of religion. I don't think I've heard more than a handful of people in my lifetime advocating the abolishment of religion and they surely know they don't have a snowball's chance in the proverbial place of making that happen.

Not silly to me.

What's not silly to you?

The question on the table was whether the left, in favoring "Happy Holidays" over "Merry Christmas" was trying to suppress the knowledge that religion exists.

That is an extremely narrow point. Everyone in this country of age and of sound mind is aware that religion exists. You'd have to have lived in a cave all your life to not know that religion exists. There's no way to stop people from knowing about it any more than they could stop people from knowing that the sky exists. Even in communist countries people knew something about religion. They couldn't practice it, but they knew that there was such a thing. I don't see how you could find the assertion that anyone would try to hide that information from the populace, least of all by avoiding the expression, Merry Christmas, anything but ridiculous. The statement was at best, hyperbole.

Your post is about wiping out religion. The point that I took issue with was about wiping out the knowledge that religion exists. They are two different things. If the author had asserted the former, I would not have made an objection. But what he asserted was way beyond silly. If you can argue that it's not silly, let's hear it. You changed the subject and are arguing something else.
