That free government in the US was NOT free, nor was it always fair.. Because government of the people, by the people, and for the people, is a reflection OF THE PEOPLE.

We started out that way...but somewhere along the line we morphed into a government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.

That drift towards total control by the richest of the rich has been enhanced by the Bush presidency. Lobbyists have the ear of congress we don't. Special interests have the ear of the president...we don't.

Bush gives tax cuts to the rich...then throws a bone to the base and speaks out against stem cell research and feeding tube removals. Thus the fundamentalist base plus the wealthy elite makes for a power play from the right up the middle.

But that base is shrinking...you can eat a bone.

"...$100/barrel oil...." $100 dollar oil has little to do with Iraq. Look to the increased demand from China and India coupled to the lack of world wide refining capacity and diminishing oil reserves to understand that problem. Iraq's oil will serve to alleviate the short term problem if and only if new oil refineries get built. Long term solutions to $100 oil will be a greater use of coal, wind, solar, wave, hydrogen, biogas, and nuclear power sources. And reduction of the use of gas swallowing cars.
