No one to christen at the Equator

We are now at 6N and so far we have passed easily through the ITCZ. We watched ABN AMRO ONE ahead barely skip a beat through and so with that and looking at the satellite pictures we hope that the last few degrees will not be too painful passing through this notorious normal area of calms. We still have a few degrees to go before we reach the south east trade winds at around 2-3N so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

However, we will have no one to christen at the Equator so there has been a bit of conjecture about who should be given at least some type of ceremony. Horacio Carabelli has yet to prove that he has crossed the Equator although he assures us that he did on his father's boat when he was little. We are waiting for proof of this. Other ceremonies could include Andy Meiklejohn who has only crossed the equator in the Indian Ocean and Chuny Bermudez who is the only person on board from the northern hemisphere. They mentioned something about me being the only girl as a ceremonial cause which I quickly dismissed and disappeared below back to the nav station.

Marcelo (Ferreira) is now up and around and although a little weak after his week of fever is on the mend. We are happy to have him back to his old (now skinny) self. The tension is increasing as we get closer to the scoring gate and with 2-4th place so close it could be any three that gets through second so it will be a nerve wracking 48 hours as we approach Fernando de Noronha. This island is part of Brazil so the boys on board are happy to at least pass close to a piece of home on their way to Cape Town.
