Response to just ONE of your points:

"rather than leading one (Lucent) into a meltdown."

These are the facts, rather than the "HP emotional outburst, Carly ruined my hp".

Carly was pres of LU and took it to about 50 billion in Cap. When she left, TWO YEARS AFTER SHE LEFT, the company sunk of its own weight, to about 3 Billion in cap.

LU was bell labs. The most important contribution bell labs made in the 130 year history of ATT was the Princess phone.

(yes, I know, that is an exaggeration, but they were the captive R&D for a company that had a billion dollar a day MONOPOLY. Just how hard do you think they had to work as a company culture?)

After they (LU) were split off their main customer continued to be the old ATT and the same RBOCS. ATT created an income stream and pumped it to the public.

HP wanted to do the same thing with Agilent for tax planning purposes for "Bill and Dave". Carly was the idea CEO for this. What she did was maneuver her position to stay with HP OR BILL AND DAVE'S PLAN MAY HAVE BEEN THAT IT WAS AGILENT THAT WAS TO BE THE OLD HP AND HP WAS REALLY THE SPIN OFF.

It depends on who you believe. At the time of the plan adoption, PC's were returning 18% plus ROI to HP and there were thoughts that it was the "old" hp the measuring division that was "only" making 12%. Either way, Carly was a perfect CEO for either half of the 355 spin off.
