Murtha speaks for the military and Pentagon perhaps more than any politician in DC. I have heard three expert insiders now saying that Murtha stepped up to the plate not at the behest of democrats, but at the behest of the top brass in the Pentagon who fear this war is ruining the armed forces and making a volunteer army impossible to sustain.

Who wants to join the military if some draft-dodgers like Bush-Cheney are going to send you into a unilateral war and occupation where you have a 10% chance of being killed or maimed for life? In Vietnam they had the draft. They're going to need another one if Bushies keep this up.
