sounds like you've never managed an offshore team. I'm starting to realize that engineering expertise is only a small reason for the dominance of silicon valley. It is mostly sand hill road that counts. Once a hypergrowth brand is created (and this is ALL BUSINESS)- there is no time to waste with these offshore teams to save a buck and waste a year. Thats why Google is hiring so many here and not in india, even though from a purely academic standpoint India has plenty of talent to take Google's entire R&D effort right now. Until sand hill road operates out of china/india, core engineering will not reside there, imho. At least not for US companies, chinese companies another matter of course.
