Yes I am somewhat familiar with the area ... I live in OC, but I have some friends that live in the IE.

One of my friends recently joked that everyone on his block wroked in RE now ... he was exaggerating, but only slightly. Out of 17 families, the main wage earner for 11 families works in Real Estate. Builders, agents, mortgage brokers ...

Two of them have recently left long term jobs (one was a mailman) to work in RE.

"My anecdotal evidence is that the entire economy is driven by consumer goods and home building. If you don't work in one of the myriad distribution centers there, and you are not a construction worker, you are commuting into LA or Orange County (for 2+ hours a day)."

It is even more unbalanced than IE in many of the fast growing markets in Florida. We get the hurricanes, plus growth of grass, shrubs and trees at an amazing rate year round and tons of rain keeps em very busy..
