Chipotle shares almost double in price
Thursday January 26, 12:08 pm ET

Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill nearly doubled Thursday morning following its debut on the New York Stock Exchange.

Denver-based Chipotle (NYSE: CMG - News), which is owned by McDonald's Corp., priced its initial public offering at $22 per share late Wednesday, above the expected range of $18 to $20.

Nearly 7.9 million shares were offered; of that, Chipotle sold about 6 million shares and McDonald's sold 1.8 million, the company said Thursday.

Shares were trading at $43.06 Thursday morning, after rising as high as $45.06 earlier in the day.

Before the offer, McDonald's owned about 92 percent of Chipotle. The company said after the IPO that McDonald's would remain its majority owner.
