I consider IJ as a great businessman (Linkabit), and you have to be good businessman/woman to reach higher ground. My reservation about PJ is confrontation instead of cooperation. That's why Qualcomm is considered as a bully.

IMJ is in a class of his own and we all know that. That's why we were always nervous of his eventual retirement. No one can really fully replace IMJ.

As for the criticisms of PJ they all seem unfounded from my objective point of view. QCOM has always been disliked by the Euros and definitely always considered a bully with regard to royalties. Attempting to paint Paul with anything, good or bad, at this early stage of his reign is quite premature imo. Does anyone really believe the lawsuits wouldn't have happened if IMJ was still CEO?

The Euros probably hate Altman more than PJ since he is "the architect" of QCOM ipr licensing model. His appointment to president made clear that there would be no changes in QCOM's position with regard to royalties. That, if anything, may have pushed the Euros over the brink.

*he has some success with BREW*

yes it seems the conference call or investor's meeting or both indicated that BREW is profitable and growing like a weed. We know data is why 3G was born and I think this may in a few years be a reasonable leg to the stool, maybe better than Omnitracs.
