As I said earlier. Bashar is surrounded by his father's advisors. The Foreign minister is the same guy who was a FM under his father. These are the guys who are ruling Syria now. Bashar happens to be a figurehead. The American CIA, needs to find out some way to prop him up and make him more powerful. I bet the top military brass of Syria are the same folks who were put in place by his father. It is the Syrian military which is creating the problems in Lebanon.

We got to find a way to engage Syria politically not militarily. We had a very seasoned person in Colin Powell with regards to world politics. It was he who formed the political cum military alliance under the leadership of Bush Sr. But unfortunately, the axis of Cheney-Wolfowitz-Rumsfeld let him go and I don't think Condi Rice would measure up to the job of bringing the Arabs like Syria to the table.
