Here is a page from EWI, summarizing triangles. In a Running Triangle, wave "b" goes beyond the top (or bottom) from where "a" starts out, but "d" does not travel beyond "b". At EWI, they actually used a break beyond "b" as proof that the formation was indeed not a triangle.
