As for unions, I have much experience with the CAW, the UAW, and the worst of the worst, The Teamsters (I actually fear typing that word). I have stories that would astound you. Here are a couple for kicks. 1. My VP comes into my office and tells me to come watch our plant on CNN. Someone (union member and he was caught) released mace into the heating and cooling system. 2. Three weeks after the mace a very special piece of equipment, that by its very design was fireproof, ignited and destroyed about 1/3 of our production capacity. In response to this, our clever Japanese partners invented an entirely new frame for this special equipment that could be moved. The reason they did this was simple; never again would a union force them to do anything, as now they could pick up the equipment and move it in less than three weeks. They never caught the person who did this, but considering the entire plant was union, and there was a big vote coming up, we can make a leap of faith here. 3. I would love to share details about one of those unions, but I honestly fear giving a single example. Beatings, bricks, shootings (at houses only fortunately), and other things. As for GM, they just don't get it. The past two months have been very difficult working with them. Everyone is concerned for their job, and "good" decisions are hard to find. My global director informed me that he is not inclined to fund much GM development in 2006. He thinks they are very disorganized and have no real strategy or integrity. GT TH
