It is a monarchy and they are good friends of the US. We can have that in Syria also whith a not so hostile Bashar at the helm.

There's a vast difference in the way Jordan and Syria act.
We dont' try to strong arm Jordan into anything simply because King Abdullah is a moderate and a calming influence in the area that has HONESTLY approached Israel with peace proposals while understanding Israels concerns for it's security.

Syria on the other hand uses peace overtures merely as political posturing, more of an attempt to get the US to ease pressure rather than attaining any serious progress. How can we improve relations with Syria when the whole region knows who they lend support too?

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon accordingly felt he should sound a bit more upbeat.
He made it clear he wanted peace with Syria, but set tough conditions.
The Syrians must first break their links with the Lebanese group Hezbollah and the Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad - all of which Israel and the United States brand as terrorist.

Then on the other hand:

The statement by a Jordanian spokesman appeared to be a more explicit conciliatory gesture than Jordan had previously made, although the Jordanian official, Marwan Muasher, said Jordan's position conforms to Jordan's long-held policy of seeking peace with Israel "provided that Israel abides by international law."

Keep in mind, I'm not saying Israel is perfect but look what happens when they give land back as they did a few months ago.....Palestinians with a truck full of arms blow themselves up. I strongly suspect those arms where not for hunting rabits...
