German soldiers were terrified of the Soviets at the end of the war and were very happy to surrender to US soldiers rather than the Soviets.

"My guess, would be that till Germany declared war, Hitler's Germany was not considered an "imminent threat" to the United States"

Basically, the American people did not wish to go to war. Many were outright Pacifists; and U.S. policy was still Isolationist. War is not a popular elephant to sell when the "enemy" is an ocean away.

Also, the aftermath of Versailles was being realized in a Germany ripe for Communist rule. The people had 2/3rds of 5/8th's of sweet p-ss all--the perfect breeding ground for Communism. Many thought Hitler a hero and a Saviour.

It is true that Russia received much needed munitions from the allies. But the defense of the citizenry is still a great story--which is not erased by the ruthless sacrifice Stalin made of the people.

And speaking of Stalin: He was an opportunist without conscience or alliance of any kind. Naturally he was "friendly" with the Nazi's. That ruthless son of a bi--h would not take on a world power unless it threatened his personal self interest. He had no human values other than power and personal aggrandisement.
