I should have saved the article. One of the things I remember was the training camp in the desert. It included a couple parked airplanes. The article indicated that the site was used for practising hijack "takeovers". Similar to what the FBI does in practising hijack "takedowns". Also, wasn't AQ Zaqarwi treated for his early injuries in Iraq hospitals? Seems like I read that somewhere.

The contacts Iraqis had with AQ were miniscule compared with (for example) Saudi contacts. So I wouldn't worry about it. It's pretty much a red herring - and was beaten to death on the Foreign Affairs thread.

If there was a legitimate connection the US administration would have trotted it out in their many speeches- but there isn't one, so they can't trot it out. That's probably the best evidence of just how little connection there was between Al Qaeda and Saddam's Iraq. There are people around who really want to believe the connection- but for the people who treat it as a matter of belief, there is no point in arguing facts. I've been there, done that, and got the T-shirt.
