You guys are both ignoring something. There are people that drink responsibly there are also plenty that drink to abuse. It's exactly the same with drugs the only difference is street drugs are illegal in the US and alcohol isn't.

The law doesn't hamper the drug user or the drug dealer. The people that use drugs will continue to use drugs regardless of the law. Drug dealers will continue to crop up no matter the number of arrests or how full our prisons get. Drugs will be smuggled into this country on a continuous basis, regardless of the law. Huge sums of US dollars made off drugs will be washed and flow out of our country to countries like Colombia where it will be used to corrupt control and kill, regardless of the law. A gang style black market subculture based on illegal drugs will continue threatening the lives of innocent people in drive by drug wars, regardless of the law. What we have in affect now doesn't work. When something doesn't work in America we strive to come up with something better.........not a continuation of a failed concept.
