I took that to mean that the generals didn't think the Iraqi forces were yet up to holding the towns.

Your point seems right on to me. I dont think people seem to realize, Iraq had NO POLICE or ARMED FORCES after we disbanned EVERYTHING since they were all Baathists. That might have been a mistake, but its done with. Now, IMHO we are rebuilding and its coming along well. But, its gonna take a little more time. I bet in six months we are going to feel a lot better about things IF we can just be patient.
If you think about it, Saddam controlled 80% of the population very effectively with 20% of the country being Sunni's. Now its reversed, SURELY 80% of the population can EVENTUALLY control 20% of the population, just give them a chance. jdn
