Sometimes people adjust their speeches for their audience. That being said, even if Matthews was trying to do it, he appears to have misjudged his audience badly. Even the fair minded analysis seems to loop back to Matthews is a fool.

Bin Lauden is a creation of oil money, radical Islam and the experience of beating the Soviets in Afghanistan. He had the CIA's help of course and was our friend then. He went againast us after the Gulf War when we left bases in Saudi Arabia. That's when he went cuckoo and shocked the world by his "success". He came out of nowhere to be the #1 enemy, but he was halfway around the world and untouchable.

Then 9-11. All of a sudden, Bush who has a history with the Bin Laudens and coddles Saudis big-time (a source of much of his power, along with his ex POTUS father)is an enemy of Bin Lauden. Great. Better late than never.

In Afghanistan, we had Bin Lauden and his guys cornered at Tora Bora. It was our crowning moment. What happened? Bush allowed a cease fire to be called. He's the Commander in Chief and he's responsible nomatter whose fault it was on theg round. Osama sliped away and hasn't been seen since.
