You do understand the idea that commodities fluctuate in price, in both real and nominal terms right?

1999 was a low point in oil's inflation adjusted price. 1980 was the high point (at least post 1900 high point). Almost all the increase since 1999 is from other factors besides inflation. But since 1980, after you adjust for inflation, the price has dropped. Commodity prices fluctuate. Its how commodity markets operate, not some big conspiracy.
