actually, conferences are leagues, too. consider this definition of league from dictionary.com:
"2. Sports. An association of teams or clubs that compete chiefly among themselves."

so i'd say you were wrong in that respect. the only way you could possibly be right is if you make the argument that the other leagues (conferences) are not non-professional. which could be a valid position since the top players at the top teams are, in effect, professionals. moreso than many minor league baseball players in any case.
