After MBNA announced they would be purchased by Bank of America, I think they have thrown caution to the wind.

In February 2005, I obtained an MBNA Motley Fool Visa card because they didn't tack on additional charges for foreign currency purchases. On October 1, several weeks after they announced the sale to Bank of America, they increased my already substantial credit limit by 30%. I have friends who had the same thing happen around the same week.

I suspect MBNA has incentive payments coming, for maintaining or growing business by the close of the transaction.
