In 2004, we had a woman running to represent this area as a Republican. She promised to be Smirk's voice in Congress. Personally, I was under the impression she should be representing us and not Bush, but...

Any way, she lost. Not by a lot, but she was considered to be a shoe in. It confirmed my sense that things were shifting, despite the appearance that Bush was riding high.

Well that's good to hear. Texas seems to be on the cutting edge when it comes to the current state of politics.

In retrospect, the same may have been true of this state's recent gubnatorial race that ended up too close to call. The Dem was this very lackluster, plain jane vs a much more dynamic looking and acting GOP male. The fact that he lost in a squeaker at the peak of Bush's appeal may also have been a tell that things were changing.
