Geophysical work this summer had identified the property as one of the country's highly prospective sites. Andrew Carter, president and chief executive officer, Tinka Resources, said in an interview with Mining Interactive that the diamond-drilling program would target the bodies identified by earlier geophysical work in the Huaraz mining district. According to Nick Nicolaas, president and chief executive officer, Mining Interactive, some excitement has been generated by the fact that Tinka's highly prospective property is just 30 kilometres away from the seven-million-ounce Pierina gold mine, now owned and developed by global giant Barrick Gold. "At Luminaria, construction of access trails and eight drilling platforms were completed earlier this month," said Mr. Carter. Tinka Resources also received agreement from the communities involved, not only for drilling, but also for further work. The company has retained Pac Rim Drilling SAC Peru as the drill contractor. "Support of the community is an important part of the process, because in Peru, if you do not have a strong working relationship with the communities involved, you may as well give up. It is a step-by-step process and really the one that matters most. The rest will fall in place," Mr. Carter stated. Tinka has 12 claims in the area totalling 8,100 hectares, with the Luminaria property located about 270 kilometres north of Lima. The gold mineralization at Luminaria is hosted by an altered granodirite that intrudes sediments of the Goyllarisquizga group at an altitude between 3,200 metres and 3,600 metres. A total of 269 soil samples have been collected on a grid measuring roughly 1,800 metres by 300 metres. Anomalous gold values ranging from 0.02 gram per tonne gold to 1.9 grams per tonne gold are associated with anomalous copper, lead and arsenic values within an area of 1,400 metres by 300 metres. Numerous pits were also dug in the area to a maximum depth of 3.1 metres, and vertical channel samples yielded results ranging from 0.1 gram per tonne gold to 52.2 grams per tonne gold, with an average of 12.9 grams per tonne gold over 1.37 metres. The surface channel sampling results, combined with pitting results, identified gold mineralization within a manto horizon covering an area of about 230 metres by 270 metres that averaged seven grams per tonne gold over an average depth of two metres. The induced polarization survey completed at the Luminaria site delineated three large discrete bodies of high chargeability in the northern sector and a highly resistive body in the southern part of the survey. The geophysical targets underlie and may not necessarily be associated with the surface gold mineralization. The best geophysical target was found in the centre of the northern part of the survey area with a depth to its centre of 110 metres at its southern extent. The diamond-drill program will target the bodies identified by the geophysical program along with the anomalous surface gold areas described above. Tinka's goal is to identify precious-metal exploration projects of high merit through its association with Sierra Peru Pty. Ltd. and from grassroots field exploration. We seek Safe Harbor.
