Oh yes. The Russians counted on General Winter. And he delivered in spades! Hitler did count on a fast campaign and expected to be in Moscow before winter with the Soviet gov't either surrended, retreated into Asian Russia, or in exile.

When it became apparent this wasn't going to happen, the German gov't launched Winterhilfe- -basically an appeal to German civilians to help out with their own clothing and by making warm clothes for the soldiers. Wasn't enough to prevent tens of thousands of German deaths.

Napoleon made the same mistake when attacking Russia.

Quite right and even then it was a close call...

But the scored earth policy was an essential component of the famous Russian survival.
