I have NO idea what you are talking about wrt 9/11. I'm not talking about that. As far as I know you weren't talking about that. You said:

"So far the Iraqi war has cost the lives of about 850 soldiers over each of the 2 1/2 years."

I merely said in terms of eating up human lives, we should include the lives taken on both sides, to see the real toll the war is taking on human beings. I felt it was hubris to count only American lives. That was all.

"And as far as the "insurgents"....we weren't in Iraq when 9-11 happened."

If by insurgents you mean terrorists, they certainly werent there either when 9/11 happened. That doesnt mean however possibilities of an iraqi version of a "nazi-soviet" pact didnt abound. What worried me most about saddam back then is that he could have passed any wmds he had or would have to al quaeda and when something went off, he could have pleaded innocence. It would have been very difficult at that point for us to make the connection and we would have been reduced to bombing rocks in afganistan, while saddam laughed his way to the Sans-sanctions bank.
What we have now in iraq is a mini version of the above and sunni arabs better wise up or they will find themselves living in talibanistan or iraqestine in the near future. I think the Jordan bombing was a wake up call for sunnis. How long can you play with fire before you get burned? And for the shiaa they better watch out for those persians who seek to control southern iraq in some manner. Mike
PS We avoided snow this morning in New Jerseystan but it is cold. Waiting for the grandkids--something we have in common i suspect. Have a great TG--
