You're a brave man. It's going to be a relentless hypefest going into MacWorld and its official OSx86 unveiling. As I have no dog in this fight, I'll just sit back with a big bowl of popcorn and watch.

Evidently, we differ in our views of AAPL, OX.......and that's what makes markets.....g.

.......though I should make clear I'm only concerned with the price action....I have no views at all re sales, net profits, etc........whether from Macs or iPods.....

Good luck on your short....

How much longer will this fairy tale last?

The standard Pearl of Wisdom response is, of course, "Longer than you can stay solvent".

How long will this fairy tale last?

How long did the Walkman fairy tale last? There might be a clue therein - but then this is a different product, with a music store and a bigger than cottage industry sized accessory industry.

Orion,

Best Buy has 3 apple cpu's on their web site this morning, a mini, an iMac and a dualie. They are out of stock on the mini and the iMac. Best Buy is out of stock on a couple of the iPod models, not just the nanos but they are also out of stock on quite a few of the other mp3 players. Not knowing their initial inventories on these items, it is difficult to say alot except that mp3 players seem to be popular.

Went to the amazon website, and there are plenty of iPods on the top 100 items sold in the electronic store(and they are the highest listed mp3 players) but there are no cpu's this am from any manufacturer. If you go to the computer best sellers, this morning Apple has 6 of the top 10 sellers and 10 in the top 25.

Go to the apple store and their top seller listed this am is the iPod with video. Interesting thing here, the number 3 and 4 items are quicktime pro 7 for windows and macos x. Makes me think that converting video files to run on the new iPod with video is becoming a popular thing to do. If Apple sells a couple of million iPods with video, they might also sell a good number of quicktime pro, especially for windows users. Just thinking about it, might make just getting an Apple cpu more enticing because of the iLife suite being apple to make media for the new iPods. Top listed cpu that I saw on the best seller list was the powerbook and then the new iMac.

So overall, just from anecdotal evidence, the iPods look like they continue to sell well but things look ok for Apple cpus as well. The iPod is the hot item and it would make sense for Apple to push it and the iTunes store. Lure them in with the iPod and hopefully, sell them a cpu as well.
