<I really wish I'd seen Best play >

Having less runway in front of me than behind allowed me to see Best play for Manchester twice. It can be somewhat boring to hear an older guy (60) like me say "he was one of the greatest players to have played the game" - it's cliche and banal and so overused today.

But, in Best's case, it was in fact true. I played soccer in college and could appreciate what I was seeing. The interesting thing about him was he was very slight - fast as lightening, could see the whole field, a kick like a canon (either foot) - but, the thing you remember him for was his ball handling - he could turn fullbacks around in the jocks and make total fools out of them. Like the other truly great players in other sports, he played against the game and not the other team. He was generous in his play with pinpoint passing but he was also a scoring phenom. He caused all his United team mates to play better. From what I read in the papers about him, he played just as hard off the pitch.

You have great taste in players. And yes, it was sad news.
