May you hold your breath for impeachment proceeding against Bush. Silence from you 'til he finishes out his term would be A-OK with me.

Well he won't be impeached unless there is a change in the House of representatives. We'll need a clear democratic majority just to begin the investigations which this House has stalled.

To be silent as a witness to such unfounded actions such as pre-emptive war based on lies and half truths would be as criminal as the acts themself.

Saddam was a concern to us and the world. But he was not an immediate threat that required military invasion and occupation. Powell said in the months before the war that the policy of containment had kept Saddam in check. He was correct in that assessment.

That said, the policy of containment was flawed too, as it exacted a high price on the Iraqi people. We went from a flawed policy to an abhorant policy.

We must stand against war when it is not in defense of the nation and national security. This war in Iraq is an act of aggression that will not further democracy in the world. In fact it has harmed the potential for freedom.

The only correct action that we can take now is the withdrawal of forces and the return of sovernty to the Iraqi people. That requires that the Iraqi government have a trained police force and army in place. Therefore that should be of the highest priorty to undo the wrongs we have committed. We destroyed their army, now we must rebuild it. Same as we destroyed their infrastructure we must now rebuild it.

As Powell said, you break it...you own it. His unspoken message there was that we shouldn't have gone there. Now we have to fix it and give it back to them. $5 billion isn't going to cover the cost of a new Iraq Army.
