Yes. You thought you only had one gallon of whiskey. Offering a higher price for it brought your neighbors out in droves to sell you their excess supply at a profit.

If you go high enough in price, your neighbors will find the risk of starting up a still in their back forty to be worth the risk of being caught. So will others.

Soon you will have barrels whiskey. :-)

Other neighbors may invent a drink that allows you to use half the whiskey you previously used, but still enjoy all the benefits. A more efficient use of whiskey. Your one gallon is suddenly like having two.

You thought you only had one gallon left because you didn't consider the other factors that could increase your supply or replace your past usage.
